for the past two years, i've been trying to make a piece of music that explores what it means to choose love and togetherness, especially when it's hard.
what are the beautiful and terrible things about being individual (unique, unbearably light, alone), or being together (spiritually connected, conforming, relying)? i've been gathering threads from my role in groups, to my relationships with loved ones, to my tension with nation and society—and trying to translate that into an intuitive, embodied sound.
four; interwoven is what emerged. four musician-storytellers explore this tension between vibrant self and powerful collective by interweaving their unique voices and instruments. a concept quartet blending folk band, musical theatre, and choral music, composition with devising and improvising. singing without words.

four; interwoven was commissioned by New Music Theatre Project; Chris Dieman, artistic director.
The development of four; interwoven took place at Casa Uno, Millay Arts, Jentel Artist Residency, New York City, Prague, and Oldřichov v Hájích.
Thank you to Andrew Strano, Brooke Trumm, Manon Blackman, Rheanna Atendido, and Will Shishmanian for their involvement in developing this piece.
Special thanks to Bill Wu, Kevin Lee Sun, and Lukáš Janata.
